What is nerve filling?

Nerve filling

Nerve filling is a simple medical procedure done in order to relieve tooth pain and maintain its health, and patients usually resort to it when they suffer from inflammation or infection in the roots of the teeth, where the supervising doctor removes the tooth pulp, then cleans, And sterilization, and the formation of the root canal, and dental canals, and then put a filling to fill the space.

Causes of nerve filling

Inside the teeth there is a soft area called the dental pulp, which extends from the visible part of the tooth to the tip of the tooth root in the jawbone. The pulp contains nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels, and bacteria enter the pulp when the tooth breaks, or when a deep cavity occurs in it. Bacteria and decaying matter can cause a serious infection, or a tooth abscess, if left untreated, which may lead to the death of the pulp, or the weakening of the bones, or even the weakening of the tooth itself, and one of the symptoms of its infection is the presence of swelling around the Face and neck, a hole in the teeth, toothache, swollen gums, or sensitivity to different temperatures.

Nerve filling method

The steps that the dentist follows to fill the nerve are as follows

The doctor makes an incision through the top of the tooth. Remove the pulp from the cavities and ducts.

Sterilize the channels with sodium hypochlorite, or any other sterile solution.

Forming the canals using a set of tools, of different diameters, to ensure that all affected areas in the teeth are removed, and also making sure that there is enough space to place an adequate root filling.

Taking a series of X-rays during all stages of the procedure to ensure that these tools reach the end of the root, and that all canals have been completely cleaned. A medication such as calcium hydroxide is placed at the bottom of the nerve canal to help kill bacteria at the root end.

When the procedure is scheduled to be completed in two visits, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics for the patient to combat the infection, place a temporary filling to close the hole he made in the tooth, and will schedule another session a week or more later to directly fill the nerve canal.

The dentist numbs the tooth again when the root canal is filled, places a rubber dam, removes the temporary filling from the tooth, and then fills the canals with a rubber-like substance called (gutta percha) surrounded by adhesive. , a temporary filling will be placed in the opening and the general dentist will place the permanent filling.

After the root canal is completed, the tooth will most likely need a crown to protect it from future breakage, and a fixed center is provided for filling. It is worth noting that the doctor may choose to do the crown immediately, or may wait a short period of time to make sure the tooth is clear of pain.
